Château de Meursault produces the wines from Puligny-Montrachet located in the South of Côte de Beaune up to Corton in the North. Our wines coming from Pinot Noir grapes express their terroir, especially our Premiers Crus from Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Grand Cru from Corton.

In the Meursault appellation, the Château is the owner of about 10 “climats” including the prestigious Charmes, Charmes-Dessus and Perrières Premier Cru and possesses a monopoly: Clos des Grands Charrons. Chardonnay is also the grape variety that is planted in the magnificent parcels of Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain and Champ Canet, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Beaune and Corton-Vergennes.

The bottle of Château de Meursault is produced in a special mold created in the 18th century: only the wines from Château de Meursault and Château de Marsannay are presented in these unique bottles !

What are the right service conditions ?

We suggest that you serve your white wines at the temperature of about 12-14°C and the red wines at the temperature of 15-17° C. Moreover, according to the sommeliers, young wines should be decanted 2 hours before being served. As a result, they become more aromatic and smoother.

What is the best order to taste Burgundy wines ?

According to the Burgundy tradition, the youngest wines that are more complex and aromatic should be tasted first.

What is the best food & wine pairing ?

The golden rule is to find the right balance between the wine and the food so that their aromas and intensity become complementary to one another.

Burgundy wines will definitely be appreciated with Burgundy gastronomy. Therefore, you will enjoy œufs meurettes (poached eggs) with Beaune Premier Cru, beef bourguignon with Pommard, chicken “ Gaston Gérard” with an elegant Volnay. As for the white wines, the famous snails or jambon persillé (ham with parsley) go extremely well with Clos du Château and Burgundy truffles omelet with Meursault Charmes. Moreover, unlike a deep-rooted idea, Burgundy white wines are very well paired with cheeses like Comté or Citeaux. Finally, at the end of the meal you may enjoy your coffee with the famous Marc de Bourgogne.

Generally, the whites express themselves with subtlety once paired with cold starters, white meat, sea food and soft paste cheese. The reds, being more structured, can be accompanied by some spicy food like grilled meat, sausages, red meat with sauce and chocolate desserts.

What Burgundy wines should be left for ageing?

Among the wines from Château de Meursault, we would suggest that you keep in your cellar the following wines: Beaune 1er Cru, Pommard, Volnay, Corton, Meursault Charmes and Meursault Charmes Dessus. These wines can be aged for several decades, which will soften their tannins and develop the aromas.

You may find the information concerning the ageing potential (starting from the year of the vintage) for each wine in the wine files on our web site. For example, Meursault du Château 2013 has an ageing potential of 5-10 years, which means that you can keep it up until 2023.

As for the white wines, the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus can be kept for about 15 years. At the same time the red wines, having more tannin, can be aged for 20 years. Finally, large-volume bottles, such as magnums (150 cl), jeroboams (300 cl) or mathusalems (600 cl) are the ones that suit best for the ageing of the wines: the volume of the wine being more considerable, the process of its ageing is much longer and harmonious.

What are the right ageing conditions?

The bottles should be kept in an horizontal position and out of light in a cellar with an average temperature of 13% and about 85% of humidity.
