Map of the vineyard
From North to South, Burgundy has more than 110 appellations. These appellations are composed of a mosaic of terroirs called “climats”.
During the Middle Ages, the monks recorded these differences of terroir and created the clos, famous plots of vines surrounded by walls. Today, there are 33 Grands Crus, 561 Premiers Crus, and 44 Village appellations. As for the regional appellations, they represent about 65% of the production. Finally, Burgundy consists of four major regions: Chablis, Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais.
